Where: UC Berkeley – Berkeley, CA
What: UC Berkeley has a collection of unique and historic sound recordings which document Native American culture from the early 20th Century. Under a three year grant from the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, these recordings are being digitized using a new optical scanning technology developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and referred to as IRENE. As a digital imaging specialist, the successful applicant will operate the scanning apparatus and oversee the day-to-day workflow of the project and work on other digital imaging projects as time warrants. This will include the handling of delicate historic materials, data collection and entry, data analysis, documentation, and supervision of student helpers. The applicant’s work is supported by the on-site technical team and LBNL and museum professionals.
